Some timeline updates

October 17th, 2008

Well, Allakhazam finally rolled out the updates to their XML so we are going to push forward. I just finished updating the item scrapper for Alla and updating the mouseovers and item views with the updated stats. Here is where we are so far in terms of post-3.0.2 changes:

  1. DHTML mouseover has been updated to use new stats from Blizzard. Melee, spell, or range specific stats have been removed and spell power added. Same with *.view-item.php files.
  2. Began updating calculations for new stats
  3. Began adding death knights to the UI where applicable
  4. No current plans to update the Wowguru item scrapper. Their site is dead. I will leave the item scrapper as we last used it in the files upon first release but I am going to remove links. If you see some purpose for having it, you can do the updating yourself(but something tells me you won’t).

As far as timelines are concerned: I have no plans for a pre-Wrath release at this point. I would rather take my time and get good code ground out rather than rush for no reason since many guilds are going to stop raiding all together in the next few weeks. I will, however, open forums in the coming week or so to begin discussion or ideas flowing on things that can be added.

WOTLK & 3.0.2

September 17th, 2008

Given the announced release date of WOTLK and 3.0.2, we have decided to forego any release for BC and have began work on shifting the software to a WOTLK state of use. This means condensing all of the stats and transitioning the item scrappers and the like. Expected release is some time after 3.0.2.

One step closer

September 3rd, 2008

Today I finished up the item scrappers for WoW Allakhazam and WoW Guru. I don’t know how far support for WoW Guru will go though because it seems to be a dead or dying site. WoW Allakhazam however is part of the Zam network(the same network that owns Wowhead, Thottbot, and others), so their place is secure. I would have liked to have had a Wowhead scrapper but their XML is hard to get to and even harder to parse.

Development focus has now shifted towards cleaning up the formula to make it usable for Burning Crusade. Once we have completed that step and cleaned up a few other pages, we intend to immediately shift focus to preparing a WotLK release as soon as possible. The lifetime for our BC version is very short as BC comes to a close. Our intent is to release a working formula and a working site and offer only limited fixes for the BC version. This way we can fix any major issues that arise but put much of our focus on re-working the site for WOTLK.

In any event, check back for a BC version in the coming couple of weeks.

Preparing for alpha

August 12th, 2008

We have begun development for an alpha release due out in a couple of weeks. Though there are many tasks to be done, here is a short run-down of the major plans:

  1. Setup a forum here for feedback and support for ZSDKP
  2. Implement the many required changes to ZSDKP
  3. Setup a download viewer to give access to all released versions from the day we begin releases
  4. Setup an automated change list so you can view the current change list and release notes

You should start to see a great number of changes around the site. Little of this is the final layout, we just needed a platform to begin releases because getting ZSDKP out the door is our number one priority.
