As was pointed out to me, there is an article on Slashdot about a new bill that was recently passed in the Hosue of Representatives. This bill, H.R. 4279, establishes a new organization under the Federal District Attorney which has the sole purpose of policing copyright infringement. To make matters just a bit worse, they have the power to collect any computer which they believe has even a single piece of material of “dubious origin,” aka: P2P traded files.

Do we need this?

Since the Bush Administration began, how many new organizations have we gotten? Do we really need another one?

Our country is already cash strapped with an overburdened, unbalanced, budget and the thing we need above all else, is an organization to watch out for copyright infringers? Please, give me a break. No one cares about the interests of overpayed companies and musicians. All this continues to do is make the movie and music industry look like a bunch of whining babies – I wish I got paid as much as they do to bitch all day.

Today’s economy is on a rather large downturn compared to where it was just ten years ago. So, in order to help that out, Congress decides that the best way to spend time and tax dollars is to create an organization whose sole purpose is bothering computer users? No thanks, do not want.

Buy a law, any law

It would seem that the industry has managed to actually buy themselves a law this time. The sad part is, this law serves corporate benefit at COST to the American citizen. We, the people, will pay the taxes for an organization to make sure we aren’t violating a copyright. Furthermore, we give this organization the right to take away our computer equipment for an undisclosed length of time on the mere suspicion of having, so called, “dubious files”.

As shitty as it might seem, I hope they do this and that person sues the hell out of the government for unlawful search and seizure. This way, the every man gets some money and this stupid law gets thrown away.
