Obama “distorting” Bible, who cares?
on June 25, 2008 at 6:00 pmAccording to a “top” U.S. evangelical leader, Obama is:
…deliberately distorting the Bible and taking a fruitcake interpretation of the U.S. Constitution…
To such an accusation, I respond: who cares?
This brash accusation brings up a MAJOR issue I have with politcs today. What does “the Church” and someones religious affiliations (or lack thereof) have to do with leading this country?
America’s problems extend far beyond those covered in any form of scripture and its highly unlikely that readings from the New Testament are going to sort out real problems like unemployment, welfare, social security, economy, etc. So I ask again, what the fuck does the Bible have to do with this man solving real-world problems?
There is but one real connection: that people all to often view someones religious affiliation as a sign of that persons moral or ethical agenda. However, I have news for the masses: whether someone is Catholic, Muslim, or Atheist, the non-religious based problems of this country need an answer and they are all equally capable of doing so.
I think that questioning someones jugement because they don’t interpret scripture the way you do is pretty pathetic. Especially when the guy making the accusation self-applies the term “evangelical.”
