EA Says Gamers Don’t Care About DRM
on October 17, 2008 with No CommentsEA says that 99.8% of gamers don’t care about DRM. The only people I know that don’t care about DRM (be it on games, music, etc.) are the people that don’t know what DRM is. In any case, here’s to two more copies of Spore that will never be purchased.
Item of the Week: Wegman’s Tin Roof Ice Cream
on October 8, 2008 with No CommentsIce cream may be one of the greatest treats that man ever invented (that and pizza, I say). I tend to indulge on a lot of ice cream when I can. I enjoy most any kind: vanilla, cookie dough, cookies and cream, strawberry… the list goes on.
So, when perusing the grocery store this week, I was looking for some delicious ice cream that comes on a budget, that I had also never tried before. Enter: Wegman’s Tin Roof Ice Cream. Stupid name, great food.
New Laptop: Acer Extensa 4420-5963
on September 22, 2008 with 1 CommentSo I’ve wanted a laptop for some time now. Like most things I want, I didn’t want to actually buy it so I have been putting it off for about a year now. This year at school I am taking some security classes that are in an airgapped room. The catch is that you can get the school’s wifi in the room if you bring your own equipment (and promise not to plug it in to the room’s network on pain of failure of all classes that use the security lab).
A few weeks ago I picked up a $1200 HP. I was planning on using it as my full time computer as it was more powerful (I thought) than my existing machine (c2d, 4gb, 9600m gt). Well apparently I failed at reading reviews/benchmarks or they lied to me, as the 9600m gt barely outperformed my 7900gs (17 points on 3dmark06). On top of that I was having some strange issues with the sound and the “media buttons” (which are really like a touchpad of some sort) acting oddly. Since HP offers full money back guarantees (and pays return shipping, and shipping to me was free) back to HP it went, quite painlessly. Even though I wasn’t sold on their product, their return policy is pretty damn nice.
About a week ago, a buddy linked me to a slickdeals post about the Acer Extensa 4420-5963. $399 at Best Buy.
Gov’t poised to legalize marijuana - HOORAY
on July 30, 2008 with 3 CommentsAn article on CNN (http://www.cnn.com/2008/POLITICS/07/30/frank.marijuana/index.html) alerted me that a Massachusetts democrat is going to propose legislation that would, to a small extent, make marijuana legal. While it would not be legal to the extent of cigarettes or alcohol, it would be quite a giant leap forward.
No, unfortunately, this is a bill that has promise but, in the political snowball game we like to play, has a few stipulations attached.
The internet saved the day: Jimmy’d a car door with a hanger
on July 26, 2008 with No CommentsOn what would have been the average Friday night, something simultaneously stupid and amazing happened.
A friend of mine came over with plans to hang out and probably go to bars or whatever. She showed up at my house and was on the phone with someone. Just as she was completing her phone call, she got out of her car, closed the door, walked three feet, and then heard a honk. Wouldn’t ya know it, her doors were locked.
Where were her keys? Inside the car.
