I’m only 23 years old and there are already two events in my life that I can safely say that I will never forget where I was and what I was doing at the moment they occurred: 9/11, and the election of Barack Obama. Simply put, more (non-violent) history was made last night than has been made in the sum of the past 7 years. There is the, of course, obvious things like the election of a black man to President, but then there is also the subtle things like voter turnout and state leaning.
The young college youth, latinos, and blacks should all be patting themselves on the back today because yesterday they did what has never been done before - for what seemed like the most unlikely of candidates.

Alliteration ftw, amirite?
In the latest economics move, Ben Bernanke is trying to urge Congress to push through yet another stimulus package with the intent of jump-starting the economy. If Congress goes forward with this, I will lose almost all ability to have any faith in anyone in administration knowing anything about economics or history.

I ask, so?
America: socialism != communism or Marxism or totalitarianism or any of the other bullshit the GOP would like you to believe. Look up some of the major foundations of socialism and how America can benefit. Things America needs, like nationwide health-care and market regulation. Believe it or not, there are countries in Europe that live (and thrive) on this political system. Even if Obama is a socialist of some kind (he’s not really, he just has taken from socialist ideas) what is the problem with that? Our country has done well for itself under this pseudo moderate system of representative democracy, but sometimes shit needs to change.
Go read about shit for yourself. Just because McCain (or Obama) says it, doesn’t mean you should believe it. Go fact check stuff for yourself and make your own judgements. Don’t let the media or candidates vote for you.

I saw this on slashdot the other day. Very good essay by Lawrence Lessig. Discusses why the copyright wars are ultimately detrimental to our society. If you haven’t read this yet do yourself a favor and do it now. Read more for full text.

I originally had planned to do a review of Adobe Photoshop from Adobe CS4 this week, but with the impending election, I decided to change it up at the last minute. Photoshop will have to wait until next week. This week I have a combination review and request: buy or download the HBO Films movie ‘Recount’. Yes, it might be an older film, but at this point in the election season, its important to remember a bit of the past.
This film, starring Kevin Spacey, Dennis Leary, and Tom Wilkinson, tells the true story of the 2000 Florida election debacle, and attempts to show how both sides (democrats and republicans) used devious and aggressive tactics to try and push the other out of the fight for Florida (which, if you remember, was the deciding state for the 2000 presidential election).

lol @ bailout. Stocks fell another 500 or so points this morning. If you were shorting stocks, you are probably rich. If you were buying stocks, you are probably broke. If you want to make a shitload of money, short now, and get ready to buy cause in a couple days when they start rolling out bailout money, a bunch of companies are gonna jump.
Go ahead, do it. I’ll wait here laughing at our government’s poor attempts to fix something they don’t understand.
